WG-Climate International Workshop

"Irrigation Water Sustainability and Food Security under Climate Change"

 Sep 07, 2025 - Sep 13, 2025

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I. OBJECTIVE

As climate change increasingly impacts global water availability, sustainable irrigation practices and their connection to food security have become critical issues. The workshop aims to promote a comprehensive dialogue on the interplay between agricultural production, water resources management, and climate change. The focus will be on innovative strategies, technologies, and policies that enhance the sustainability and resilience of irrigation systems under changing climatic scenarios.

II. SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP

The workshop invites scholars, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to submit abstracts addressing the theme of "Irrigation Water Sustainability and Food Security under Climate Change." We encourage interdisciplinary submissions from fields such as agricultural science, environmental science, social science, and more, with a focus on sustainable irrigation practices, water resource management, and their role in ensuring food security in a changing climate.

III. TOPICS AND SUB-TOPICS

The main topic of the International Workshop is " Irrigation Water Sustainability and Food Security under Climate Change." Sub-topics include but are not limited to the following issues.

1. Exploring strategies for optimizing water resource allocation, including watershed management, groundwater recharge, and conjunctive use of surface and groundwater, ensuring sustainable irrigation practices that support both agricultural needs and ecosystem balance.

2. Examining the role of national and international policies, governance structures, and regulatory frameworks in promoting sustainable irrigation practices and ensuring food security in the context of climate change adaptation.

3. Exploring cutting-edge irrigation technologies, such as precision agriculture, smart irrigation systems, and sensor-based water management, that improve water use efficiency and resilience in agricultural production under climate variability.
