History

In 1969, the Council for Agricultural Rehabilitation (now the Ministry of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan) applied to join the International Association of Irrigation and Drainage. The Chinese Taipei Committee, International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (CTCID) was established in 1995 with the aim of promoting the exchange of irrigation and drainage-related academic and technical knowledge both at home and abroad. So far, there are dozens of members from governmental organizations and academic institutions. In the early days, governmental agencies sent members to participate in international activities. Nowadays, members of the industry, government, and academia organize delegations to participate in the annual conferences of the International Association of Irrigation and Drainage every year.

Our National Committee has been actively involved in ICID affairs. In addition to participating in the Annual General Meeting and various seminars, some of our representatives have served as reviewers of symposium papers, and as chairmen and members of various technical working groups. Our members have shown outstanding performance and have taken up key positions in the working groups of ICID. At the same time, through exchanges with experts and leaders from various countries, we absorb new knowledge from abroad and grasp global trends. Additionally, we promote Taiwan's water conservancy technology and policy to the international community and build up Taiwan's international reputation. Throughout the years, the delegation has handled difficult situations in Taiwan's international diplomacy. On one hand, the delegation maintains good relations with international friends and strives for survival in the global community; on the other hand, the delegation is committed to publishing academic and technical papers to fully demonstrate the profession of Taiwan's irrigation and drainage industry.
