Highlights from the 2024 Remote Sensing Training Program Orientation

The Orientation for the 2024 Remote Sensing Training Program was successfully conducted on April 10, 2024, at the Shih Sun Fu Conference Room, Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering, National Taiwan University. The event, organized by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, Chinese Taipei Committee (CTCID), was attended by esteemed guests and participants predominantly from irrigation-related backgrounds.

The program commenced with a registration session, followed by an opening address by Dr. Ray-Shyan Wu, Chairman of CTCID, who warmly welcomed all distinguished guests and trainees. Yean-Yuan Chen, Deputy Director of the Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, expressed support for CTCID and the Remote Sensing Training Program, underscoring the significance of such initiatives in advancing irrigation practices and technology.

     


Dr. Kati Migliaccio, Chair of the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at the University of Florida, provided an insightful overview of the department and its initiatives in agricultural engineering, emphasizing its relevance to the irrigation field in Taiwan. Dr. Jasmeet Judge, Director of the Center for Remote Sensing at the University of Florida, delivered a comprehensive introduction to the Remote Sensing Training Program, detailing its history, significance, and contributions to agriculture. Dr. Judge emphasized the program's pivotal role in training future leaders in the field and its profound impact on Taiwan.

Following the addresses, a gifting ceremony was conducted to express gratitude to Dr. Kati Migliaccio and Dr. Jasmeet Judge for their visit to Taiwan. The secretary of CTCID then provided an overview of CTCID's mission and activities, highlighting its crucial role in organizing the 2024 Remote Sensing Program.

     

A highlight of the event was the experience-sharing session by past trainees of the Remote Sensing Training Program. They shared invaluable insights and lessons learned from the program, serving as a source of inspiration for the current trainees. The event concluded with a souvenir gifting session and networking opportunities, providing participants with a platform to connect and collaborate.
