Expansion of Irrigation Services

To meet the demand for water from farmers originally outside of irrigation areas, the COA has promoted a policy of expanding irrigation services. Based on the vision of “retaining water, irrigating the land,” four main strategies are adopted to supply farmers outside of irrigation areas with irrigation water: “store water when it is abundant, use it frugally during dry periods,” “import and widely distribute water,” “smart irrigation,” and “sustainability for the common good.” In 2022, the COA completed preliminary surveys and planning for 27 locations with priority for promotion of this policy and began implementation. Thus far, a total of 32,059 hectares of land and 40,073 farm households have benefitted from the expansion of irrigation.
